The client / the project

The Microsoft Data Architect will play a pivotal role in shaping and implementing our data strategy using Microsoft's SQL Server and Azure platforms within an oil & gas industry leader large enterprise. The individual will ensure that the architecture supports business requirements, performance goals, and integration needs.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement database solutions using Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Architect and deploy Azure data services, ensuring scalability, performance, and security.
  • Lead data modeling and design for both transactional and analytical purposes.
  • Plan and execute data migration strategies between on-premise SQL Server environments and Azure data services.
  • Design and implement data integration solutions using tools like Azure Data Factory, SSIS, and others.
  • Implement and maintain security best practices for SQL Server and Azure data solutions, ensuring data integrity and protection.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and company policies.
  • Work closely with software development, data analytics, and business teams to understand and support their database needs.
  • Provide guidance on database design, optimization, and best practices.
  • Willingness to understand legacy architecture and stay updated with the rapidly changing technology landscape.
  • Regularly evaluate and recommend new technologies or tools that can enhance our data capabilities.

Technologies / Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in database design and administration, preferably with Microsoft technologies (Microsoft SQL Server & Azure Data and AI technologies).
  • Proficiency with Azure data services like Azure SQL Database, Azure Synapse Analytics, Cosmos DB, and others.
  • Familiarity with SQL Server tools (e.g., SSIS, SSAS, SSRS).
  • Strong understanding of SQL and T-SQL programming and performance optimization techniques.
  • Familiarity with cloud architectures and best practices, especially related to data storage and processing.
  • Experience with data migration from on-premise to cloud environments.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Advantages

  • Microsoft certifications related to SQL Server or Azure Data services.
  • Experience with other data warehouse and BI technologies (like Oracle, Teradata etc.).
  • Experience with other cloud platforms and data solutions, such as AWS or Google Cloud.
