The IT world could be completely rearranged by 2025 — we looked at the future through the lens of Gartner

As an IT company, it is important for us not only to follow industry trends, but also to participate in shaping them to the best of our ability. That is why an important part of the work of the specialists working in our team is the continuous monitoring of medium and longer-term technological forecasts in addition to current innovations.

As an IT company, it is important for us not only to follow industry trends, but also to participate in shaping them to the best of our ability. That is why an important part of the work of the specialists working in our team is the continuous monitoring of medium and longer-term technological forecasts in addition to current innovations.

For the latter, we are greatly helped by the US-based technology research and consulting firm, GartnerAlso, with his studies from time to time he tries to paint as accurate a picture as possible of the future of the IT sphere. A large company operating in more than a hundred countries of the world, including Hungary, has recently disclosed the Over 100 Data and Analytics Predictions Through 2025his publication, in which he reveals the directions and priorities expected in the next 2-3 years based on his research results.

Data and analytics have become key drivers of corporate strategy creation, and data-driven decision making is becoming more widespread in the business world. Alan D. However, according to Duncan, an expert at Gartner, it is still difficult for many to “think in data”. Research-based forecast — covers IT infrastructures, applications, data security and privacy, digital business, e-commerce, and even industry forecasts for banking and investment, retail, education, government, healthcare, insurance, health and lifestyle, and even oil and gas trading. Here are some important findings from what has been described:

New roles, strengthened positions

Although in most companies today IT no longer functions as a kind of service/back-end department — as they have grown into an independent business entity in the organizational structure with the increase of digitalization — the process does not end there. According to Gartner, the influence of IT professionals within the company will increase year by year, especially those involved in the collection, management, analysis and decision-making of business data.
The forecast predicts that within a year, half of all digital executives in the world without a Chief Data Officer (CDO) will become “de facto” CDOs to achieve further business success and sustain results. Following the same targets, 75% of companies will also establish their own data and data analytics (D&A) division by 2024, and 30% will purchase new analytics systems that increase efficiency. The increasing demand for the use of data for business purposes will further accelerate the spread and development of cloud-based technologies, which will transform the balance of power within the organization and increase the value of collective knowledge and expertise.

Confidence in artificial intelligence

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is no longer a novelty in the business world, but Gartner warns: in the coming years, in addition to improvements, it will now be necessary to focus on the continuous deployment of systems and even on the use of AI in a results-oriented way. The importance of AI is illustrated by the fact that by 2025, 80% of companies could lose their chances of growth if they do not use the latest technologies in data-driven decision-making. Analytics will become much more complex, with companies no longer relying on just one piece of software, but on three or more parallel analytics systems that are optimally coordinated in terms of results — Gartner predicts that 60% of companies will be affected by 2023. The study also predicts that analytics experts will coalesce into communities, with 30% of organizations basing their operations on the collective intelligence of the community, giving them a significant advantage over competitors who rely solely on their own experience or a single central solution when using data-driven decision solutions.

AI will be embedded in almost every aspect of business and business processes: it will play a role in contract control processes as well as in HR decision-making, marketing or retail sales. In relation to the latter, Gartner predicts that in 2024, 10% of e-commerce traffic will already be generated as a result of some kind of AI solution. Artificial intelligence will also appear in the life of professional communities: by 2025, 75% of workplace conversations will be recorded and analyzed, allowing the exploitation of added organizational value and the exploration of risks.

Diverse datasets, renewable infrastructure

The rapid digitalization of the business world, technological transformation, the explosion of the volume of business data and its incredible diversity require a transformation of the infrastructure used to collect, store, clean and process data. For this reason, IT leaders need to pay close attention to industry forecasts and, in essence, expect a radically changed data management environment when developing a medium- to long-term digital strategy. According to Gartner, by 2024, half of companies will renew their systems based on the infrastructure needs of modern analytics solutions, and 75% will use multiple data centers to increase efficiency and security.

The study recalls that the pandemic that began in 2020 accelerated the adoption of cloud solutions to such an extent that the cloud has now become essentially the default technology. And today we are already seeing that most new projects are unviable that contradict the “cloud first” guiding principle.

Boundaries are removed, roles are transformed

The study also writes about the future of IT organizations. His main conclusion is that the drastic transformation of technology in terms of human resources will also bring about significant changes in a few years, the precursor of which can already be seen today. Traditional operating models are virtually disappearing, just as organizational and job boundaries in the classical sense are being forgotten. The transformation will also increasingly affect management, as IT organizations will need leaders who, in addition to providing the technical background and continuous innovation, are also able to create and lead a team that can add business value to the company.

Data security and management of personal information

A few months ago, on World Data Security Day, we We discussed the importance of data security. According to our colleague, it is a professional minimum for UC every day of the year to keep cybersecurity in mind and provide our clients with preventive advice on how to protect their data. The positive effects of adequate data protection can be seen in countless areas of everyday life and business, as are the negative effects. For a company, therefore, it does not matter how it treats the personal data entrusted to it or in its possession; in essence, the future of the company may depend on the care with which it is handled. Companies that manage privacy — as a user experience — at the level of the customer experience will be able to generate up to 20% more digital revenue than their competitors in 2023. Recognizing this, a fifth of companies will also be willing to guarantee the security of their customers' data beyond official national and international standards. In this spirit, by 2025, 40% of companies — up from 10% today — will have a responsible leader who deals specifically with cybersecurity issues, and of course the number of employees specializing in the field will also increase.

Unbroken popularity of CRM systems

Gartner's industry forecast confirms that we saw trends years ago and are on the right track to offer Salesforce CRM to our customers. However, the study also warns that the development of CRM systems will accelerate at an astonishing rate in the coming years. They catch up with each other automation solutions, sales are increasingly taking place through digital platforms, and artificial intelligence is also transforming traditional work and roles in this area, and this is true for both the B2C and B2B sectors. In 2024, 80% of sales processes will no longer be human intervention for the majority of the world's leading companies.

In addition, Gartner's 30-page study addresses the importance of IT in government, the rise of teleworking, technological changes in healthcare, finance and insurance, and smart city projects, without the need for completeness.
