On the exchange, Tableau shareholders can get 1,103 Salesforce shares, which represents a value of $177.88 per share for the offer, a 42% premium to Tableau's closing price on Friday. Tableau shares rose 35% to $169.50, while Salesforce's was down 5% to $156.43 based on pre-market figures.

Salesforce's current dealexceeds the $5.9 billion it paid in 2018 to buy MuleSoft software, which came days after it became part of Alphabet Google wants to buy Lookera big-data analytics firm for $2.6 billion, with an official run on June 8 interrupted, but it is expected to take place later this year.
Big-data analysis is a complex process used to uncover hidden patterns, unknown correlations, market trends, and customer preferences that often help companies make better business decisions.
The deal is expected to close in the third quarter, after which Tableau will operate independently, under the direction of CEO Adam Selipsky and his current leadership team.

The San Francisco-based company said the deal is likely to reach $400 million in 2020 revenue, but adjusted profits will fall from about 39 cents to 37 cents.
The company now says its adjusted earnings for 2020 will come in at $2.51 per share to $2.53. Based on IBES data collected from Refinitiv, analysts would expect $2.90 per share.
Bank of America/Merrill Lynch is a financial advisor to Salesforce and Goldman Sachs recommended Tableau.
