An international construction company previously relied on an Excel-based reporting system that they wanted to modernize, accelerate, and visualize. The goal was to create a decision-support solution that makes current project statuses and results fast, transparent, and easy to overview. The team mapped a critical business process into a clear Power BI report, providing relevant groups with unambiguous, real-time information.

An international construction company specializing in the construction, renovation, and maintenance of road and transport infrastructure, bridges, and other civil engineering facilities previously relied on an Excel-based reporting system. This solution required significant manual effort, failed to provide a unified view of project statuses, and hindered quick, informed decision-making. The company set out to modernize, accelerate, and visualize this process so that decision-makers and relevant teams could track current project statuses and results easily, transparently, and in real time.
The solution involved mapping a critical business process into a comprehensive and intuitive dashboard using Power BI and MS SQL, complemented by an AI-based solution. The biggest challenge was unifying data from multiple disparate systems and Excel files, as these heterogeneous sources had to be cleaned and synchronized. Furthermore, it was necessary to standardize business concepts, KPIs, and calculation rules to ensure consistency across corporate, site, regional, client, and sales levels. All of this had to be achieved without a central data warehouse at the start of the project, requiring the development of a scalable, long-term solution.
As a result of the approximately 3-month project, the company received a modern, user-friendly, and actionable reporting system that supports both daily operations and executive decision-making. The time spent on manual data collection and reconciliation has been significantly reduced, and managers and sales staff can now generate detailed analyses independently, without IT assistance. The solution has also created a stable foundation for further development: the parties continue to work together and are planning a full-scale corporate rollout as well as the launch of an independent data warehouse project.

An international construction group with decades of experience, designing and building transport, industrial, and urban development infrastructure across dozens of countries on five continents. Relying on its own machinery fleet and raw material production network, the company employs tens of thousands of people and completes tens of thousands of projects annually worldwide, built on a foundation of competitiveness, quality, and innovation.

Unifying fragmented data from various systems and Excel files: Previous reporting was Excel-based and required significant manual effort: data from JDE, the Gate system, accounts receivable, and quotes were available separately, in different structures and varying quality. One of the project's biggest challenges was cleaning these heterogeneous sources, aligning them, and establishing relationships between them to create a reliable, unified data foundation for reporting.
Standardized definition of business concepts, KPIs, and calculation rules: There was no unified interface for reviewing key KPIs, and the mapping of customers, sales representatives, locations, and product categories was inconsistent. Furthermore, a separate set of rules had to be established for classifying new, active, and lost customers, while ensuring consistent comparability of historical data—all while maintaining accuracy at the corporate, location, regional, customer, and sales representative levels.
Developing a scalable long-term solution without a central data warehouse: At the start of the project, there was no central data warehouse, which posed a significant design challenge: the solution had to be built to be both clear and detailed for various business areas with different needs, while also ensuring adequate performance and usability. Another key aspect was successfully transitioning users from Excel-based workflows to self-service Power BI reporting.
Faster and more informed business decision-making: With data available on a centralized, unified interface, the time spent on manual Excel-based reporting and data preparation has been significantly reduced. Managers and sales staff can now generate detailed analyses independently, without IT assistance, which accelerates decision preparation and reduces the number of ad-hoc report and data requests.
Transparent, unified management and sales information at every level: The solution provides detailed analysis of sales performance, accounts receivable, and quotes at the corporate, location, regional, customer, and sales representative levels. As a result, growth opportunities, declines, and new or lost customers can be identified more quickly—and standardized calculation rules have reduced disputes and data reconciliation efforts caused by conflicting reports.
A scalable foundation for future developments: The project provided more than just a one-off reporting solution; it established the foundation for a self-service analytics platform that can be further developed. This has enabled our client to continue expanding the system's use: they are planning a full corporate rollout, a standalone DWH project, and have signed a support contract for continuous improvement.

Unified, real-time decision support: A transparent, self-service reporting system was created from scattered data sources, supporting both daily operations and management decision-making, replacing the previous manual and time-consuming reporting process.
A scalable foundation for future developments: The developed solution is not a final endpoint but a stable starting point: the parties will continue their collaboration, with plans to fully scale the system and build a more complex data infrastructure.
